Movement, Connection, Hope: The Story of Recovery in Motion on Cape Cod

A New Chapter for the Cape Cod Recovery Community

Recovery is rarely a straight line, and it's never something that should be done alone. Today, we are thrilled to officially announce the launch of Recovery in Motion, a new peer-led community dedicated to supporting individuals in recovery from substance use disorder (SUD) across Cape Cod.

Born from a simple belief that movement and compassion can transform lives, we exist to provide a safe, judgment-free space to heal and grow together.

Our Story: From Loss to Determination

Recovery in Motion wasn't created in a vacuum — it was born out of a collective choice to stay connected. When a beloved wellness and recovery space in our community unexpectedly closed its doors, many of us were left feeling displaced and uncertain. That space had been more than just a gym; it was where our recovery family gathered to move, breathe, and heal.

Rather than let that sense of community fade, we chose to take action.

Led by Falmouth resident and recovery coach Karen Rae and Middleboro resident and fitness instructor Mic Grant — both of whom have been personally affected by family loss from substance use disorder — a dedicated group of members came together with a shared vision: To rebuild, reimagine, and continue.

A Partnership Built on Trust

Through years of connection with the Falmouth Recreation Department, an opportunity emerged to create something new. With open arms, the Recreation Department welcomed us in, demonstrating a genuine commitment to inclusivity and the wellness of the recovery community.

Today, Recovery in Motion is powered by its people. We are growing into a fully volunteer-led organization rooted in service, connection, and shared purpose.

What We Offer: Wellness for the Whole Person

We believe that "Recovery in Motion" means moving forward in every aspect of life. Our weekly schedule is designed to support both physical and emotional well-being through a wide range of free and donation-based activities, including:

  • Fitness & Flow: Pilates, Barre, Yoga, Meditation, and Strength Training.
  • Active Clubs: Run Club, Walking Club, and our popular Pickleball Club.
  • Social Connection: Breakfast Club, Garden Club, and regular community social events.
  • Support: Traditional recovery meetings in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

Breaking the Stigma, Building the Future

Our mission is clear: to break the stigma surrounding addiction and build a community where individuals in recovery and their allies can thrive together. Whether you are newly sober, a long-term recovery veteran, or a supporter of the cause, everyone belongs here. Read our full story or support our mission with a donation.

"Recovery in Motion is more than a program — it's a movement. And we're just getting started."
